National Gallery

National Gallery

The National Gallery is an outstanding european art collection with many iconic pieces that has drawing activities and workshops for children

The Gallery overlooks Trafalgar Square so it is worth popping in to even if you are just passing. The collection really is stunning and you can see art works from the early Renaissance right through to Post Impressionism.

There are a variety of free talks, workshops, and drawing events for families which provide a fun interpretation of the collection and exhibitions. You can also follow a range of family trails or listen to audio guides.

If you have younger kids it helps if you can discuss the story behind a picture. Tell Me a Picture, written by the famous children's laureate Quentin Blake, will help you do just this. It is a great way to make sure you get the most out of your visit and especially worthwhile if you think you might go more than once.
